At a garage sale this weekend I picked up a as new tarpaulin for a M416 1/4 ton trailer. It has only one problem or I should say 10 problems. It is missing ALL of the tie down "ropes". Hey, what do you expect for $5.00. Anyway, all my reference material list the tarpaulin with "ropes" and does not give me any information that would allow me to recreate the "ropes". Anyone have the information as to how to recreate these ropes or better yet has anyone got "ropes" for sale?

sounds like you're after the original look but if not, an elastic cord all the way around might work well. I saw a whole assortment of those in various diameters at West Marine the other day.

It's really one rope, about a 1/2 inch sisal, knot at one end and weave it in and out of the grommets. Put the tarp on, loop the rope onto the hooks and pull the free end. There are cord locks to keep it tight or just tie a knot.

Madinal,
The picture in the TM (technical manual) for the M416 I have shows individual ropes at each grommet.
