Hey guys, im looking at an m416 but need to carry 950lbs for a roadtrip, it will be highway only.

I've seen the plates on the m416's but got the impression 750lbs. was the max.

Can you guys clarify.

Thanks

I could be wrong but I believe it to be the same as the CDN M101 which is 5oolbs 1/4 ton

IIRC offroad maximum is 500 lbs and on-road ca. 750. I know that I've exceeded the on-road maximum by several hundred pounds with no damage to the suspension or tires, but I drove < 15 miles and stayed under 45 mph. I wouldn't recommend normally overloading the trailer.

Without going to lok at the data tags, IIRC the road rating for the M416 is 800 pounds payload. Off road is 500. As I have said a few times, this rating appears to be based on the trailer being towed behind a rig driven by a scared 19 year old recuit under enemy fire for the first time. ;)

I have hauled a payload of 1250 for about 600 miles on road and seven days/200 miles off road. A few times.

Your trailer will handle 950 pounds just fine.

The 500 lb rating you're referring to for the M416 trailer is a FLOTATION rating establihsed by US Government build specs, and is not the trailer's weight carring capacity. I don't know what the max cargo load capacity is but the trailer, by design, is able to be loaded with 500 lbs of gear, and it will still float. The Army did this so that the trailer would be able to make deep water crossings while being pulled behind a snorkel equipped tow vehicle without swamping, or somthing like that.

For what it's worth...

Does anyone know the dimensions of the bed, really what Im looking for is the length oand width of the bed. I would like to be able to put two dirt bikes in the back, Its OK if the wheel sticks out a bit or maybee I make a small extension for them

The inside of the M416 bed measures, 72L x 41w. But the stock M416 trailer does not have tail gate. So, you would have to modify the trailer to make your extension for the dirt bikes.

The first photo is of my M416 before I rebuild it.

The second photo is the tub after I had painted it. The tub is upside down and that is the back end of the tub.

I chose not to add a tail gate to my trailer. I like the fact that it will float and keep the contents dry.
