Hi guys,

I just purchased an M416 that I plan on fixing up into a camping/expedition trailer. I am currently running 35x12.5x17 wheels, which are 7.5" wide with a 47.3 mm offset, and I would like to run these same wheels/tires on the trailer so I only carry one spare.

I know reading the owners manual I found online here that the axle width on the M416 trailer as it sits is 58.75" with a tub that measures 41" wide, and 4.5" wide wheels.

Now if I do the math, and I am trying to get the same clearance between the tire and the tub (about 4.375"), then I will need an axle width of 71.235", or a standard 71" axle. Does this seem correct?

I am thinking of upgrading to a 3500 lbs. axle with brakes. Any recommendations???

Hopefully someone will chime in that really understands wheel offsets, plus there are some real M416 Gurus here....but I'm just recommending the axle and brakes...don't miss the opportunity to take advantage of a great upgrade.

good luck, Pat

Yeah I am planning on an axle and brakes, just a matter of which is best. I am guessing I should run a straight round tube axel. What length and where the leaf spring seats are located I am unsure of currently. I am guessing that people run the stock M416 leafs in a SOA configuration?

Yeah I have seen their site and might be getting my parts from them. It is really a matter of what other guys are running on their rigs which will help me in selecting my parts.

I got mine from them, was very happy...I odered 3"dia. with brakes, to match up what was existing, and removed the perches, welded them back on.

Perfect fit, pretty easy to do..bu it wasn't a SOA
