Running Mobile 1 in the 80. Do you guys reccommend the Mobile oil filter as well or should I try to find the notorious OEM part #20004? What is the difference and why does the mobile filter cost almost 3x that of the other brands?

Thanks for your help. Just trying to do right by my lady....I mean eighty.

I run the M1 filter. Just cause all the M1 stuff seems to be top quality, don't know why the filter would be any different. Screw trying to hunt down some ellusive OEM filter that everyone still gets the start up rattle with!

the 20004 filter completely eliminated my startup rattle It's been gone for over 15,000 miles

if the M1 filter gives you start up rattle I'd say at least try the 20004.

So what is the price of the OEM 20004 filter?? Has C-dan started selling them at a premium yet :D

it is priceless. If you find any PM me. I have 3 left and they ain't for sale :D

The Mobil 1 oil filter is made by Champion Labs who also make the K&N, old AC-Delco’s, STP, Wal-Mart supertech and more, all these filters are well made and generally follow the same layout and manufacturing technique, all are better than Farm. The more expensive brands also get thicker base plates more and different media and other changes. The M1 is packed with a very thick paper element, lots of surface area,

Don’t know if I will run the M1 when I run out of 20004’s, there are questions about its restrictiveness and it is expensive. I may then look for a free flowing cheap coarse filter to catch the big stuff (Wal-Mart) and worry about fine filtration with an oil guard bypass filter.

A note about Champion filters, on the base plate there is a stamping letter code, all filters with the same base plate threads, seal diameter etc will have the same stamping, this makes finding alternative filters easier.

I've got one with 5000 miles on it, that I'd make you a really nice deal on ;).

Seriously though, I'm taking one off this weekend if someone just wanted try it out for a couple of hundred miles. Been running Delo 15W-40 through it if that matters to you. Let me know and it's your's.

I had the lousy fram on my wifes Olds , and every morning on start up I could hear the same rattle as my 80 with 45,000 miles. Installed M1 filter on Olds last oil change, rattle completely gone. I will try on cruiser next oil change.

Interesting, I've always run the K&n for over 6 years. I use a 3001 for the 80, it's much larger than the 2001 called for, and works great. I've never had a rattle bu it solved my dad's 95's rattle. I just started using k&n after seeing that LC Engineering uses them on their ho engines.

I wonder if these new "Ecores" that are showign up in the Walmart filters will work thier way into the M1 and K&N or will those still keep the old sytle?
