Hi guys, finally after several nights fishing on craigslist and more web pages, I found a trailer M416....

I am writing this post to try to resume the basic modification regarding, suspension, axel, rims, tires; based on yours experiences, please can you write down about its:

Fit Land cruiser rims to the M416
How do you do?
- Swap complete axel, what parts do you use, and why?
- Using a hub adapter from 5 5.5 to 6 5.5?
- With parking Brake?

What tire yours installed?
33 or 35?

How many inch you lift the trailer and how?
- SOA?
- Spacer?
- Longer Shackles?
- Stock lift but relocate the fender

Hitch, swap to standards ball hitch or keep the lunette ring

I am sure that any other comment or modification will be good, and the pictures related with the comments above are welcome.

Thanks
Jonathan

what does 'swat' mean? I think of men wearing black carrying guns...

have you done a Search yet, to start finding answers to your q's?

uppss... I wanted to say "swap" P not T, Sorry and thanks..

Yes I read a lot about the options, but I would like to resume in only one post, that could help to more than one people.

Personally, I would like:

- Keep the stock m416 axel, but I don't like the adapter or spacer. (in order to keep the parking brake)
- keep SUA, and relocate the mud fender. (In order to keep lower the Gravity center)
- Fit 35 (to be the same that the rig).
- Install a standards hitch of ball. (Because I liked)

But I never did before; the best comments come in from the people that already did those modifications.

Thanks

Jonathan,
Not quite the same beastie, but we had a discussion on whether or not to SOA regarding the CDN M101, the M416's close cousin.

I know a lot of the basic dimensions are close. Most likely, if you do decide you want to fit 35" tires, you will have to go with SOA, because the relationship between the fenders and the axle center and travel under spring compression is going to be too small with the 35" tires otherwise.

With 33" tires, it will be close, but should work. I'm scraping tire $$ together now to test that on our M101, but that is the plan, stick to SUA and 33" tires. We do a lot of mining trails in Colorado and a low center of gravity is pretty important.

Someone else will have to speak to the specifics for the M416, but you should be able to simply swap the hub assembly to give you whatever wheel bolt pattern you need to convert to. A very simple and fairly inexpensive conversion as these things go. Most M416 are older, so may not have working parking brakes, but you can also decide then when swapping hubs whether you want to deal with those or not.

Thanks Greentruck.
I saw that is a longgggg way

M416

I am going thru what you are going thru.

The main problem is the size of the center of the hub. The M416 has a much larger center piece than the 101 does.

I finally went with a new axle and no brakes as figured the trailer is light. I wish I could have kept the parking brake.

I also bought new shocks, new c shackles, new front leaf springs bolts and new 33 inch tires. I am just starting to put it all together.

I am going with the SUA as I want some extra height due to running 35's and 4 inch lift on my Wrangler.

Get with me if you have any questions. I asked all the same questions and people have helped me.
