Recently sold the 100 and bought a 2015 lx570 with 75k miles. Just changed all the fluids and made some minor repairs. Went to change the fuel filter by removing the cover on the frame. No filter. The cover was there, but the lines just kept going towards the engine area. Is this normal? Seems odd to me. Any info would be appreciated

There is no fuel filter.

Other markets with worse quality fuel got one but we didn’t. It seems they kept the cover to provide radiant heat protection from the cats, but @PDoyle is correct.

Other than the strainer in the fuel tank I guess. And mine was surprisingly clean with over 150k on it.

Is there a union behind the cover? Would be an ideal place for a heat exchanger to prevent boiling.

Nope, just a bend in the line to clear the frame if the filter was there, but the line itself is uninterrupted on US 200s.

Adding some junctions wouldn't be difficult in theory, though IIRC our lines are metric so you'd need to find appropriate vibration-proof fittings. That last detail would be the tough one, as far as I know. It is also pretty close to the catalytic converter, in the event of a leak.

Hi, maybe investigate ordering new OE lines for other markets with the filter?

My LX is on the hoist at the moment and the filter cover is off so I’ll try and remember to take a pic tomorrow.

I considered this years ago but came up with a few problems.

Installing would basically mean lifting the body off the frame.

We don’t know that it will even fit, given potential emissions related differences in the fuel system in different markets.

It just doesn’t seem necessary.. how many US market 200s are suffering clogged fuel system parts?

To your point, the gasoline here is almost always MUCH better than the typical LC austere operating environment.

Hi,

Here’s a couple of pics. I fear the retro fit might be more involved as Bloc suggested, unless you could fit appropriate hose connections to the steel line if you cut and/or flare it. I was not familiar with the OE joining method shown where the rubber meets the steel, this was the same both sides (the engine side was hidden by the silver heat shielding). It appears to be Push-Lok style barbed fittings without clamps.

Incidentally, although the filter itself is just the round canister, the OE replacement comes with chassis bracket assembled.

Thanks for posting these.. yes they appear to be push-lok or maybe some kind of molded line. Maybe even crimped.

It also strikes me as a really small filter for the size of engine and fuel demands. Just to be clear.. this is for a 5.7L 3UR-FE?

If you aren’t driving a diesel there isn’t a fuel filter in a traditional way besides the point that there isn’t any need for within the US because of the fuel quality.
Same here in Europe.
In other parts of the world its different… was once in North Africa and had to change like every or every second tank the diesel filter.

Yep, URJ201R, 5.7L 3UR-FE.
