Hi Everyone - my wife liked the end result of my exterior "makeover" of my 2008 LC (seen below) and to my surprise, she has asked me to give her black 09 LX a bit of an update.

For her 09 black LX I am thinking chrome delete, running board removal, and new wheels & tires. We are going to go with the 17inch bronze Icon compressor wheels <Compression / Bronze - 17in - Icon Alloys - Icon Vehicle Dynamics - https://iconvehicledynamics.com/wheel/11912/icon-alloys-compression/2017855557BR/?finishID=4616> I have seen these on a few 200s on this site and love the look. I am looking for some advice on tires. I know everyone hates a tire size question on this board. I have spent dozens of hours on this site over the years and have found exactly what I needed for my 200 above and my old 100 series for various topics. However, I think finding examples of how wheel/tire combos actually look on LXs is a bit more ambiguous... partially because many people like to post pics of their LX with AHC in Hi mode.

I am looking for your thoughts and perhaps photos of what brand and size A/T tire I should consider to match with 17 inch wheels. Primary goal here is to have a good looking tire wrapped around those 17s that is not completely slammed and taking up the entire wheel well in neutral AHC position. We will not be doing a sensor lift as of now. Mainly because I don't wrench and I have trouble finding technicians in the Birmingham area that don't look at me funny when I mention something a bit outside the box like that service (we might head to ACC in Atlanta in the future). Appreciate any thoughts you have!

285/70r17. Ridge Grapplers or Kenda Klever R/T if she wants tough. Defenders if she wants mild. Falken AT3W or Toyo AT3 in between.

What will you be installing instead of the running boards?

I am continuing to research removal options posted here, as there seems to be a bit more to it than my LC or my old LX470. I honestly don't hate how the below looks. We wheel in my LC, so I am not as concerned about the exposure shown below when those are popped off.

285/70R17, this is the go-to size for having beefier tires on stock suspension. With a sensor lift you could also go up to 285/75R17's.

For an aggressive look, but good on road characteristics, I would recommend the Cooper AT3 XLT, Falken Wildpeak AT3W, Toyo Open Country AT3, or General Grabber ATX. If you want even more aggressive, look into Nitto Ridge Grapplers or Kenda Klever R/T's.

Thanks man. Glad to see the consensus is 285/70. I noticed no one has mentioned BFG KO2s as a good option. Thoughts on how those compare? Just personal preference?

There is some somewhat of a bias against KO2s which is not really founded in anything in particular but the fact that they've been around a while and they aren't particularly sexy. There are a bunch of anecdotes and opinions and some internet reviews.

But tires are a lot like shoes, everybody's feet are different and at the end of the day there is always somebody that can kick your ass in a race wearing nothing but flip flops.

The only time I've ever thought about my tires are when I air down/up on trails, wash the car, or somebody on here asks about them. Beyond that they have been fine - quiet on the highway, great in the snow, great in the rain, great in the mud, great in dirt, sand, and rock. There are probably a lot of folks on here that have never owned them that have had different experiences than me somehow. Se la vie.

You may consider 285/75/17. To me it’s the sweet spot on +25 wheels, but it requires a little massaging of the fender liner and possible a mud flap removal or two.

I'm going with Toyo AT3s

Tirebuyer.com with the coupon code tiresize05 seems to be the cheapest way I could get them in 275/75/17
I ordered from SimpleTire through ebay as they currently have $100 off $400 coupon. I ordered 2 pairs (seperate orders) to receive $200 off. They obviously expect this, because my 4 tires shipped with one tracking number. Got them in 2 days.

Do your 285 75 r17’s on 25’s poke out past the fenders?

No, they are inset just a bit. Here are some recent pics. The first you can see how they fit, and the second you can see how they tuck:

Very good. Do you think if you had a relatively sharp drop, would both rear wheels tuck into their fenders at the same time?

Or do they need to angle/flex a bit in order to “rock” into the fenders?

I have hit a few woops and never had an issue. When I first got the wheels and tires installed, the fronts would rub the front fender liner when I hit a bump with both sides at the same time so I had to push it in with a heat gun, but I have never had an issue with the rears.
