I am due to take my 2013 LX in for 120k mile service this week and I am wondering if there is any maintenance that I should consider in addition to the Lexus recommended?

My LX is in great shape and I have never had any issues, but this year has seen the addition of front and rear bumpers along with an increase in use (mostly off-road, but also a few long, extended highway trips).

In addition, I will be adding sliders and moving to 285/75/17s with Icon wheels very soon. While this will actually decrease my unsprung weight, I am wondering if there is anything I should consider in preparation for these changes generally.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated, as always.

I should add that the LX is not my DD and when I say that use increased this year, I went from putting 6k a year on it to putting 8k a year on it.

Fluid change front and rear differential and transfer case in addition to all maintenance listed in owners manual.

Will do! I also wonder whether I should think about the water pump and the starter. I’m trying to think about things that are likely to start reaching their expected lifespan.

Has the trans ever had the fluid exchanged? I did not have a healthy report at 125k. That would be my #1 priority.

Oh yea, do the transmission fluid too. I did mine at the 120k and the fluid looked OK but the shifting did get smoother afterwards.

AHC fluid flush and have your radiator inspected for a hair line crack in the top plastic.

I'd do-

Radiator
Upper and lower radiator hoses
Water pump
Thermostat
Pulleys/tensioner
Starter

so I recently purchased the same 13' LX at about 108k miles. Im now at 120 and due for oil change and I guess the "120k" service. Other than a bunch of items to "inspect", the only real things to do appear to be replace the height control fluid, brake fluid, oil and filter, spark plugs, air filter, and the dealer wants 1,435 for that. Not used for towing, ect. I'm pretty sure I can get that plus many of the other suggestions done elsewhere for much less. Any thoughts? Dealer vs. Trusted Napa shop I have used for my 100 series? Also, the last major service was at 60k done by Lexus dealer. I have seen other threads debating also the 0/20 synthetic vs. the 5/30 I put in my 100 series, but any other thoughts welcomed on that detail also.

Given that not many 3rd party shops are familiar with AHC fluid change (heck, not many Lexus dealer either), i would take it to Lexus and have them do it...because if something goes wrong, you have the dealer to fix it.

I agree with Madtiger that for this particular service, the dealer may be the best choice.

Also, to each his own, but as you bought this used, you may consider going ahead with the fluid changes for the tranny, the transfer case, and the front/rear diffs.

How much of that quote was for AHC? I have a 13 LX and paid around $250 for AHC fluid (60K mile service) though I am 100% sure it was not a "flush" but drain a liter or two and top off. Problem was my regular mechanic did not want to work on AHC. That said my AHC works fine and I am at 83K with no issues. I guess if the dealer messed it up they should be able to fix it.

Beside Diffs and Transfer Case and Gearbox I would do the Radiator (given a failure can result in an overheating event) and related items. Starter maybe wait until 150k to spread out the cost a bit.

Yeah, I’ll admit 120k is too early for the starter. That’s the only one I’d remove from the list.

Good call on the fluids, I’m assuming all have been done a couple times at 120k.

Might as well do the belts too.😬

IMO starter depends on your use case.

If you are one of the few people that regularly go to places that the rig not starting could put you and your family in danger, like the maze district in Canyonlands, it is probably worth the cost even at this point. The issue is when they give up there is generally very little warning and working around the failure is very difficult if not impossible in the field.

If most of your time is spent in places where a tow is available to get you out of trouble, it makes sense to wait.
