I was just wondering if anyone has a diagram on how to remove the tilt motor.

The only couple of posts I found stated that it could simply be the motor has turned past its operating point. Any idea how to manually turn it to give that a shot. I disconnected the battery for half an hour or so, as I also read that their can be a fault created, but with no luck.

Need more details? What exactly are you experiencing?

The tilt motor has quit functioning, I can't get the steering wheel to move up or down. It will still telescope like the other two I have read about on here. Biggest issue is my GF was driving it and the dang wheel is now in my lap.

you can adjust it manually...I did mine...pain in butt

my motor is out too..one day may replace and fix but now it is in fixed position and disconnected the lines so it cant be accidentally moved...also turned off Auto Telescope function.

How did you disable the auto functions?

You disable the auto functions by hauling it into lexus.

How do you adjust that thing manually?

Ok, found out what the problem was, looks like someone has been in the steering column before, the little connector coming out of the motors circuit board is not making connections to about half the pins. Guess I will be ordering a new motor.

- when you get in there and take the motor steering link shroud off you will see two systems...a screw type setup for the telescoping and another for the tilt. sometimes you can disconnect and reconnect and do the SIX BUMP trick that sometimes will allow you to move it a little at a time. Give it a try....

If that does not work to get it where you need it...then find a allen wrench or torx...cant remember which it is....and turn it to manually move the right direction. it only takes a little to move a good bit due to ratio so be careful. Also recommend you disconnect air bag before playing around in there....

i would have to get back up in there to remember to show you...as it was a year ago but is possible.

When that is done then have a Lexus mechanic hook up his device to OBDII port and go through the menu and deactivate the auto telescope function...can also do the seatbelt alarm deactivation. Unfortunately he could not also disable my DRL function...hahaha but I tried. :)

Sorry cant be of more help...

I pulled the air bag right off the bat, I have been a little paranoid about those, been hit by a couple in an accident, and did not relish the experience. I have to go get a set of torx bits, as I am pretty sure that is what it is in there. I was just wondering if you have to pull the wheel off to get that motor out. The way it looks I am guessing I am. I managed to get it in a livable position last night by grabbing the motor shaft with a pair of needle nose and cranking it around.

I appreciate the help Brock, it is a mess in there.

Thanks, looks like re install is going to be another fun job. Didn't like what I read about reinstall. The one engineer said it has to be screwed back in the proper number of turns or it won't function. I will try and Pm him and find out if he knows how many it took.

yep that is the fact....best thing is to start with it in furthest or lowest setting so when you get a full cycle of new motor it wont jam....then I would set it a turn or two up from bottom. You dont want your motor to bottom out in either direction or it will cause entire system to jam and get stuck...then you will have to get in there and turn it manually to get it loose again.

I'm thinking It might not be a bad idea to do a write up on this, seems there are more that have failed than I initially thought.

yep...it is a pain in the rear for sure....I thought about it but really needed someone to snap pics on the manual adjustment while I did the work...too much trouble stopping and starting. Good on you for stepping up to attempt a write up...
