Hi. I'm using my LX470 to tow a small fishing boat. I want to upgrade the rear bumper to Dissent bumper. Their bumper tow hitch is not rated high enough to tow the boat. ~4k pounds.

Anyone know if you can install the Dissent Offroad rear bumper and still keep stock tow hitch on?

thanks!

Following also - keeping the stock hitch is what's kept me from looking at rear bumper swaps.

I would contact @benc directly. Everything I've read says that the Dissent tow hitch is strong enough to tow up to the max tow rating of the 100, even though the hitch is not officially rated (very few smaller scale fabricators can provide that, if any). He also has a new, no-cut rear bumper design that preserves the factory cross member and can be had without a hitch, which might make it possible to run the stock hitch below it.

Based on my experience with the 4x4 labs rear bumper the integrated hitch receiver is stronger than the factory model i removed. Pretty sure 4x4 labs doesnt advertise this based on reasons mentioned above. Id be willing to bet the dissent bumper is the same story. Definitely worth a call.

I’ve seen a a few members with Dissent rear bumpers tow their boats, campers, and trailers that definitely weigh more than what you have and they don’t seem to have any issues at all. Don’t remember exactly who but maybe they’ll catch this thread and chime in. Most aftermarket rear bumpers that are manufactured by smaller companies don’t rate their bumpers for several reasons, one of which being the high cost and time associated with the process of having it DOT rated. It’s extremely expensive to send multiple bumpers to the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) which are then crash and load tested until their breaking point. Not to mention the liability involved if someone God-forbid had an accident while towing and their cargo or vehicle passengers are injured or killed; that blame could fall on the manufacturer and be devastating. That’s why you see a lot of aftermarket bumpers both front and rear labeled as “off-road use only”.

Thanks everyone. I emailed Ben:

Hi tony,

The rear hitch is not rated but will have no problem towing max load for the 100.
The stock hitch will not fit with the bumper cleanly.

Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!

For what it's worth... I wheel with this behemoth., the UEV-490. Just did High Rock Canyon two weeks ago and no problems. Ben's bumper is solid

4500lbs+ and no problem. Towed all around the southeast and out to Colorado and back. No issue.

Oh and the trailer jack was in the way of the spare tire so after some searching I went with this and it’s been awesome Home . Being able to easily remove the jack in just seconds solved the issue. Much better than using a hitch extension.
