thought I would share my diy project. The steering wheel on my 98 lx started to look worn so I bought a cover from Amazon from loncky for $60. Looks pretty good and color is close to the brown on the trim. It was very time intensive and while their YouTube video was helpful I found their estimate for the required length of stitch for each segment a bit short. I doubled their estimate to make sure I did not run out of stitch. Here are my pics. Overall project took about 3 HR. No need to remove old cover, just install over the old wheel. The pics loaded out of order. The middle picture is the new cover. The flash makes the color contrast seem large, it's more subtle in person.

I just went through the same installation and your suggestion about stitch length is spot on. By far the best cover I've used, I think it is my 3rd re-cover. Worth the extra effort.

Link? Sounds cheaper and easier than replacing the wheel in my '99 which is looking grubby!
Go to amazon and search loncky steering wheel cover or Lexus LX 470 steering wheel cover and it will come up.

Good luck

The guy's Amazon page pretty clearly states that it is designed to go over the factory leather. My leather is trashed, the sun incinerated the top 3" of the wheel and it's gone now. Do you think this cover would still look good going over that? And do you think it would actually work / fit correctly if the factory leather was cut off? I really don't want my wheel grip any larger. I don't want something from the Ron Jeremy range (thanks Jeremy Clarkston).

I like the wood wheels on EBay but not the price, plus the little thumb tabs they have formed into the wood just really piss me off for some strange reason. It's a steering wheel, not a yoke for a Tie Fighter. but that's my opinion, not the opinion of the staff and employees of IH8MUD or their affiliates.

Any tips how to do this as I am not quite getting it. Did you stuff the leather before starting to sew?. It is not quite aligning properly.

I don't have great tips on the tucking of the edges other than making small adjustments and taking your time. I worried about mine too. Just be patient.
