My mom's 2000 LX470 head unit (nakamichi, sp?) took a crap all over itself. She has asked me to replace the radio after getting quoted 700 some odd dollars from the dealer. I'm new to the site, but is there a good write up on how to get the dash apart? Do I need to rewire the amp, or can I just buy an adapter like most radios?Cruiser radios don't have a good track history in my family... my 1992 Landcruiser's took a dump too, but I sold it (worst mistake ever).

I'm comfortable working on cars (subaru WRX owner/modder) but being as it's moms car, perfection is necessary.

There are already several threads on removing the radio and wiring the amp.

Check the FAQ's first of all. There is a good write up on stereo/amp/speaker replacement. Longhorn has done some cool stuff and has lots of experience to offer.
