my LX450 is 1996 - I have done front bearings re-grease twice and replace them "cone bearings" once, that is understandable maintenance , my question what do I need to do for the rear wheel bearings as they are sealed ball bearings, - do I need to replace them too? and how difficult the job , I do not have a press .

TY

they are not sealed and can be serviced like the front bearings. you would need a tub of grease, hob seals, axle shaft gaskets and you may want to consider replacing the axle seals since the axle shafts com out anyways

nope two different style axles.

lc80/lx450 rear axle is a full floater axle, these wheel bearings are serviceable and are tapered roller bearings.

lc100/lx470 rear axle is a semi float axle, these wheel bearings are pressed onto the axle and are not serviceable, they are replacement only

I might be wrong, but are you sure the rears are sealed units? I'm fairly confident that the rear bearings are set up very similar to the fronts with the exception of the lock nuts. They are round with lock screws and take a spanner wrench to adjust.

The outer bearings are interchangeable front and rear, those are tapered roller bearings.

bigred beat me to it....

Rear bearings are usually in great shape; just some fresh grease and seals are necessary (so I've heard).

Looks like the rear bearings are the same as front?

Yes-the same. The exact same which is cool. The seal set-up is different. But it is totally serviceable and you should do that. Keep the bearing pre-load high and check the adjustment often. (every 2 years or so)

So, do you grease the bearings before installing?
