What are the thoughts on taking off the cross bars in relationship road noise? I never use the roof rack and was just wondering if it would make a difference on interstate trips?

Surprised you can hear the stock bars? Is your sunroof shade closed?
Sure, no problem with taking them off. Just take off the side rail covers ( can be a pita ) and slide them off.
Part of the reason why the LX uses a shorter rack is to keep the cross rails rearward to minimize noise. You may also take that further and slide the pair all the way rearward and see if that reduces noise enough?

that is funny. we should have teamed up 2 months ago, when i BOUGHT my two crossbars from lexus!
i did not notice any noise when i added them. I did wonder if the satellite radio reception is compromised a little, as the rear cross bar is in the way of the rear roof antenna for 90 degrees of the horizon! in north america, reception of the sirius satellite positioned above the equator is pretty much on the horizon.
i did find a garage in Portsmouth NH that had too little headroom for me to park there with the crossbars installed. so that might be a factor on a long cross country trip
