I don't own an LX yet, but am looking. I was browsing through the 2002 owners manual on lexus.com and found out there is an "Extra High" mode with the AHC?

HI” (high) mode

The vehicle height is about 40 mm (1.6 in.) higher at front and about 50 mm (2.0 in.) higher at rear than the normal mode height.
This mode is suitable when driving on bumpy roads and through water.

"Extra high mode"

"This mode is automatically selected from the high mode with the four–wheel drive control lever placed in ”L” position depending on the vehicle driving condition.

If the vehicle becomes stuck, the vehicle height rises automatically to the extra high mode (slightly higher or at about 70 mm (2.8 in.) higher than normal mode height)."

Did anyone know there was this extra mode?

Also, I read that there is weight restrictions when trying to use "HI" mode

The vehicle height cannot be raised if the vehicle load exceeds the following limits:
-Up to 4 occupants* plus about 300kg (661lb.) in the normal mode
-Up to 4 occupants* plus about 170 kg (375 lb.) in the high mode
*About 68 kg (150 lb.) for a person

Has anyone experienced this?

Finally, I thought this was interesting about the T-bars

(i) Installing or removing heavy equipment
If you install or remove heavy equipment exceeding 15 kg (33 lb.), the front torsion bar should be adjusted. Consult your Lexus dealer.

Mudder's already know to tweak the T-bars, but it's kinda neat they mention it in the manual.

Yes. All of this has been mentioned a few times in here.

yep...you cannot choose it though...only intended to help you get off being HIGH CENTERED if it detects typical wheel spin associated with it.

But yes, nothing new......

Yes, the weight capacity goes down when in HI mode because there is more weight bias on the AHC system and less on the springs/torsion bar. This also happens when you only adjust the AHC sensors for lift and not crank the t-bars and add spring spacers in the rear.

I'll also mention trying to change the height while on any obstacle has never worked for me. The AHC just doesn't like it and blinks. I pretty much leave mine in "N" 99% of the time. And then "H" the 1% when I'm working under on it =)

I took the LX off road for the first time last Saturday and used the High button a few times to have a bit more ground clearance when driving up a rocky hill. Only to found out that too much power with no traction (road tyres) doesn't help much. :-)

I am planning to install an ARB Deluxe winch bullbar plus 170l long range tank and spare wheel carrier so I will need to do something on the suspension as well, especially when towing our KK.
