I was cruising along around 30 mph and suddenly a rock hit my windshield on the passenger side, and the star began spreading rapidly. I had it at Safelite within 30 minutes. They "fixed" it - to keep it from spreading, but it still looks horrendous. I have glass coverage on my insurance, so it paid for it with no deductible. I inquired today about a new windshield from an independent glass co here and got quoted $2500! According to them, they can only get OEM glass for the LX 600 because it is still so new, and they have to buy it from a Lexus dealership for basically whatever they are asking. I was advised to wait a few more months, and aftermarket windshields with OEM specs should start to become available.

Any thoughts on this or similar experiences? Advice? Thank you!

Get the OEM, especially if your insurance is covering it. My last windshield i got for my 200 was OEM glass and was about $1200 for the glass if I recall correctly.

All the aftermarket stuff is s***.

Go with the OEM now. They will make you pay out of pocket then reimburse you. Make sure you have photos.

Oh and a side front window is around $1,000.

So I am speaking from experience.

Yeah get the factory one asap while insurance will cover it. I was told aftermarket glass would be available in October so maybe too late for side windows.

Dealt with this and another specialty car windshield this year. Headaches and dealer only.

My side window Lexus replacement had a sticker that said- Made in Japan. Only to be removed by owner.

I got few stars, and 2feet line crack. 11k miles... not in the field of view so will wait a little bit since lx600 picks up way more chips then 200. Have anybody used or heard about exoshield windshield protector? Premium Automotive Protection | ExoShield - https://www.getexoshield.com/
I have this and it's ok for smaller hits.

It takes the brunt of the strike and over time, will need to be replaced

I was on a highway and a larger rock (about the size of my pinky finger tip) hit my lower driver side with dramatic effect.

This will obviously need to be replaced, but I'm waiting for winter to be over first.
