Hello all. Looking to purchase a new set of wheels that are 17x8.5" +0 offset. What size lug nuts would I need? According to my research m12 1.5 in 2"?

Didn't your new wheels come with lugs???
They should because lug nuts are often designed for each style/particular rim, meaning that the nuts will sometimes be chamfered (have an angle) on the bottom to allow the nut to center itself on the hole the stud is going through depending upon the wheel design.
If your wheels didn't come with lug nuts, ask which ones work for that type of wheel.

It's dependent on the specific wheel itself, either factory lugs will fit, or you'll need conical seat aftermarket lugs.

I run Gorilla 21134ETBC 12mm x 1.50 extended thread, on my two Toyota's with conical hubcentric wheels. (Method and Enkei).

Same with these - I'd emailed Method as well and they say that these extended shank lug nuts fit all of their wheels as the shank portion is a bit thinner.
