So whilst rebuilding the brakes I was thinking about the LSPV. I had all sorts of trouble with the one in my 80 series, but now thinking about the one in the 70.

A good write-up here: Toss the LSPV and install a manual....

I was wondering if anyone has done this to their old BJ 70 series with rear drum brakes and if the ability to adjust is manually made a valuable difference?

Is it legal to modify this to a manual control? For me, our NZ rules are very restrictive, so I'll need to find out.

Could the manual valve control be placed inside the cab for on the go control?

Would love to hear about any 70 series specific setups.....

The LSPV has been engineered by the manufacturer for a purpose. I always wonder why people think they could engineer things better in their garage than a major manufacturer can. Probably mostly because they don't understand the stuff.
The LSPV is a dynamic adjustment, considering parameters dynamically changing during the drive. Replacing that wit a static setting simply can't do the same trick. I also wonder what the parameters for any manual setup would be? 'Whooo, my ass-o-sensor tells me I'd like some more brakes in the back'? I don't get it. Just my 2ct.
Tempering with the brake design without authorized engineers approval is illegal in most jurisdictions; NZ is no exception, I guess.

I quite like my lspv and don't mind drum brakes at the back at all. They are simple and last yonks. I put 500kg constant springs on the back and had to extend the lspv arm actuator. I was going to put one of those wildwood adjustable taps under the hood from the master for loaded and unloaded, but decided I don't need to mess around. It stops fine if I need to.

I don't drive much in traffic, so when I need to stop , I just slow down before even touching the brakes. Even the front disc pads last yonks that way. It is primitive like me! My landcruiser is a cruiser, not a land racer.

Maybe give yourself a clean though mate! haha

Yes a clean is on the list. Just making sure it's drivable first with some new brakes.
