Have any of you guys used these headers on a 40 Frame after doing a LS1 swap?. I have a set of AA and looking for a different alternative to fit my steering linkage a bit better.

I put a 6.0 in my 40 and we used a camaro factory exhaust manifold. It is the tightest fit and it is a really nice piece. Welded tube not cast, has the o2 in it as well. Got mine off eBay for 96 bucks.

I'm also not a fan of headers and much prefer OEM manifolds. Here is my LQ4 with LS6 (Corvette) manifolds. They stick out only 2.75" from the side of the head and the center of the output flange is 5" from the side of the block.

Thanks guys, that really helps a lot to know.
don't really want to spend $500 ion a set of new headers and the one i goit from AA are terrible to start with ...

Medusa; i see you used AA motor mounts, and looks like it clears it just fine, right? If i gain 1" over the AA headers, I will be very happy !, also like the heat shield over stock versus headers too !

From what i learned, there's two versions of manifolds; i have a 4th generation Vortec, and will need to find that style, am I correct?

Yup, you will need a ls2 or gen4 manifold.
FWIW I retained the stock Denali manifold on the pass side.
I saw a 2009 camaro manifold on eBay last night, that should do the trick. I did not see any corvette manifold but I did notice slight differences between my ls1 gen3 camaro manifold and the 2006-2009 camaro manifold so be sure you get a gen4 manifold.

If you look at the yellow boxed area in the pic below you can seen that I had to trim the rear of the AA mount just a bit to make room for the manifold.

Ok, looked on ebay and there's tons of them that really confuses me, since the flange looks alike to all vortec's. What's the difference from LS1 to LS2 and on ?

I just measured my AA header and from the flange out to the outter pipe is 3.1225" plus the 3/8" flange. That is a huge difference !.

When looking at ebay, it's very hard to look when I don't realy know what would fit there. and the worst part of this whole thing is that I had the original manifold of that vortec and trough them out, because i thought there were worthless. I was never happy with the AA headers since you either have to weld a flange to fit the down pipes, or have a band to hold them !.

I'll remove those things before I fire it up and put them up or sale !

I will get one tomorrow. I think I will need a star to post it.
My set up uses stock gm motor mounts.
Pics coming.

Thanks Pees!
I am just changing over to a 2004 6.0L from my old tired SB 350.
I originally used the Bob Firestine motor mounts and I was just planning to use plate adaptors on the Vortec to convert to the old stock SBC motor mounts. I would really like to see how your stock mounts turned out. If you can't post the pictures here send them to my email bh97223@gmail.com. I have not got the silverstar yet either.

I snapped some pics today but during the day with shadows the pics suck.I will get some tonight with the flash and some side light. I'll try and get good pics of the mount to frame from the bottom and some from the top.
I was initialy worried the stock mounts used to much space but they have plenty of room. All said and done I am very happy to have oem motor mounts because they have been tested all to hell and are readily available, pick n pull is 800 ft away from my house.

I have tracked a pair of exaust manifolds from a 2010 camaro with 900 miles for $50 + the ride. Is that a good deal ?

Let's see if that does the trick !

That's is a winner. Don't be surprised if the pass side needs an escalade manifold to clear the starter if using the truck,Denali, etc starter. You can use the camaro manifold if using matching starter. IIRC the cars used a smaller bodied starter and the engine mounts are slightly different

The thread seems to have cooled, but I thought I'd add an alternative to the mix. I purchased a set of Sanderson block-hugger headers and think the fit is pretty good for a possible alternative.

I have some update to do with pics, but haven't done much since my spare time now is to fix the house.
Camaro manifolds I got are a beauty and really tight, but the collector will face the top frame (this is just my case since I dropped the engine really close to the rail).

Looked for a Edelbrok LS1 conversion headears and track one down, since they don't make it anymore (is the same shown in the picture on top) . These will fit, but need to chop the frame a bit and will have to change my steering linkage AGAIN. I opted to keep my AA sucky headers and be done with it. Now will need to return the Edelbrock ones, which sucks for me!.

will be back soon with some pics for references

Guy's I have a really stupid question, I have a 05) LQ9 6.0 and is the exhaust manifold mounting at the head the same as big block chevy? The reason I'm asking is I see a lot of stock manifold's that might work, but I'm not sure. :hhmm:

thanks

A big block is completely and totally different. stick with the small block stuff for interchangeability (is that a word?)
