I built my expedition trailer to match my SOA FJ62, but now I'm going to be towing it with a UZJ100 and even after the lift and tires, the height is off. To help correct this, I replaced the extended shackles I installed back in 1996 with a shorter set from Rough Country.

It was a half-banana job and the end result is the trailer sitting 2.25" lower. I expect another 1" reduction from the change in tire size, and then I'll play it by ear. My goal is to have the trailer to ride as even as possible with the loaded 100.

Here are a handful of pictures. If anyone wants the extended shackles I took off (Daystar), I'll take $20 and you pay shipping, an easy way to lift an M100 or M416 without having to go SOA.

You can see the size difference between the two sets of shackles, and a close-up of the new shorter shackles installed.

yeah, we want to see the a 100 that can take the place of ThaT 62.

Ha! I don't know that it will ever take its place, especially since I'm building for a different purpose. I'll post a couple of pics next week...trade ya for more pics of your trailer, REZARF, you have us jonesing! :)

:D

It is easy bro, just take every minute of your day thinking through designing every aspect of a trailer, then take every spare penny and put it towards stuff that you think you need to build it, then take every weekend you would use to wheel, hangout with family and friends, and work in your cold garage... for months and you get close! :D

I am having a blast!

Had a chance to pull the trailer out to fiddle with it and I measured against the Watermelon. I think whatever lift the OME provides should even out the trailer and allow it to ride level. Looks like the wheel track is pretty close, too.

Revived this old thread for continuity's sake, here are a couple of pictures:

Today was a nice day so I got the trailer out of storage and started measuring for some upcoming changes. The original gas shocks I installed in 2000 are worn and I want longer and stronger ones anyway, so I took some time to take some measurements and figure out what I'm going to order.

I had some extra time so I got moving on the first half of the propane bottle mounts. The tanks are still going to need some form of pedestal for secure mounting (these brackets aren't enough), so I'm going to try to incorporate a tie-in to the bumper I'm making for the trailer.

I'm planning a trip to Big Bend in a couple of months to test out some modifications and the trailer is slated for:

1. bumper
2. extend the fender protection to the jerry cans and propane bottles.
3. new shocks and shock mounts
4. welding expanded metal to the bottom of the tongue
5. new landing gear with rotating pneumatic caster
6. mounts for wheel chocks and mini jerry cans (for oil)
7. a new fender-mounted table

I'll use this thread to document because I'm too lazy to start another one.

Here are a couple of shots of today's slow start, you can see my boys were having a grand old time playing inside the tent:
