Im having a weird issue with the GX. I had the alternator replaced and I have new battery but Im not seeing the charging voltages I would expect either at the post with my voltmeter or commanded from the OBD. I never really see above 13.6 volts and as a result I never have more than ~12.5 volts open circuit on the battery. It never drains to zero and it does show a voltage increase when started and running, but I would expect both higher charge voltages and higher open circuit voltages. How does the voltage regulator work on these alternators? is it all or nothing or does it have a basic mechanical supply voltage if the regulator isn't functioning? its an OE alternator.
is this just how these work? my 80 series charges at 14.2-14.5 and floats at 13.8 but I realize its a much older school design.
