The more I think about it, the more I think they didn't do a damned thing except try to conceal how dicked up the knuckle was. I'd be willing to bet the birf had been replaced by another bad mechanic prior, and the problem I had was actually the spun bearing. The more I learn about my Land Cruiser, the more I realize that none of my original symptoms were typical of birfield failure; instead, they were typical of a spun spindle bearing.

If so that elevates this from "incompetent mechanic" to "criminal fraud". Plus the whole "sticking obviously wrong hardware in the knuckle", and "lack of lubrication" thing that endangered the lives of myself and my passenger.

If you are ever back in Iowa Park give me a shout. If you have trouble in the area I'm sure we can find a more qualified mechanic or just pullit into my garage.

I will look you up if I need to. I thank goodness, though, I was able to get it to Kevin's shop. That was a lifesaver.

I'm busy now baselining it, though. Replaced the radiator and hoses this weekend and fixed the O2 sensor today. For the first time, the only light lit on the dash is the airbag light, and as Rhett Butler once said, "Frankly, I don't think it NEEDS airbags".
