Looking for your guys' opinions on the best spot for camping along the LOST COAST?? Planning a trip up the coast in the next couple of weekends.... Everyone who has experienced this seeming to be amazing place please chime in!!

Thanks!

Also, any trails along the coast?? Incase we decide to venture out of our camping spot! Thanks!

Briceland road to the Sinkyone SP you have to carry in but not very far. Very Nice area.
This time of year Usal Rd may be pretty muddy.

there is a huge camping area at the very south tip. Ready access (like 2 or 3 ? miles from the asphalt highway). But there may be people. It's OK but not extraordinary.

There was another spot much nicer on the Northern side. I remember going through some little built up area in a westward direction on asphalt and then there being a 3x or 4x intersection and then a dirt road going down a windy canyon, ending up at a ranger station in an old wooden building on a cliff. Very spectacular. The dirt road then continues along the cliff for a few miles and I think ended up in a wild campground. Probably hardly anybody there. That was a nice spot.

Also a couple of dry campgrounds along the main N / S dirt road halfway in or so.

Above are pictures of the northern spot. Much nicer than the southern spot by the river.

Either south or north there is only one way in and out. You must take Briceland Rd. Some maps show a branch off but it is gated and locked.

If you want to camp on the beach either place you would have to carry your stuff to the beach no vehichle legal on the beach. Either place is a very short walk to the beach like 100 yards. You can drive on the beach in shelter cove where the boat launch is.

Up at the north end of the lost coast, near Petrolia is a campground at Mattole Beach. I spent a night or two there. The campground is not special, just a parking lot, basically, but it's right on the beach. It's a six mile walk south to Point Gorda Lighthouse. It's definately worth a stay if you are up that far north.

I absolutely love the Lost Coast. All the suggestions are good ones! I really like Mattole Beach. We were there not too long ago, we saw fresh bear and mountain lion tracks.

A bit further north in Mckinleyville is CLAM BEACH COUNTY PARK. Beach access across a 2'-4' deep creek with camping right on the beach/creek. This part of the coast has the flat sand beaches. Just a couple of miles south of Moonstone beach with is also accessed by 4x4 via Clam Beach and to the south a couple of miles is the mouth of the Mad River. If the tide is right, there's razor clams to be had between Clam Beach and Moonstone.
Simple little area right on the beach. Lots of fun.
There you go...

Wow Russ, looks like you have some fun with your cam ;)
Definitely a place I'll visit on my way to Oregon, that seems to be a very entertaining beach. BTW, what's on the other side?
