Loss of power on the low end - 1kz

Hi guys,

I am trying to figure out where my loss of power is coming from on my 01 TurboDiesel 1KZ. I have had a fairly significant loss of power when accelerating from a dead stop. Once I am rolling there is no issue and the car pulls like it always has. It is almost as if the car is stuck in "2nd Gear Start" but at the same time I have the loss of power issue in reverse. The warmer the vehicle gets, the worse it seems to be.

Any insight on where I should start looking?

As a follow up....this problem slowly (over 2 months) became progressively worse. It got to the point where the throttle was almost non-responsive.

I took it to my mechanic who needed a few days to figure it out. Turns out, the Diesel injector pump was failing. We had a hard time locating the parts to rebuild in Costa Rica so ended up ordering a reman unit out of Australia. $1700 later my car is runnng stronger than it ever has. I have to say that this pump was going bad for some time as the car pulls stronger than it ever has since I purchased the car 2 years ago.
