The truck has 31" tires and appears to have a 2.5" lift on it. I'm sure the roof rack doesn't help with aerodynamics either. I don't think 31" tires would need a re-gearing.....
What leads you to believe it has a lift? Looks stock to me. If you go with 33's perhaps a shackle lift would suffice, but you may need lift springs. Lower gears would really be helpful with that much tire size increase. Something's messed up with your engine performance, however. My BJ70 with 29 inch tires didn't take long to ask for 5th gear.
Drove 4 hours on the highway today. Did great on the flat section but died on every hill. had it going 70 mph on the flats so that's a very good thing. Definitely need to get the turbo asap. There were some steep hills on the highway and I bogged down to 3rd gear at one steep spot. Not fun when 18 wheelers are barreling down on you!

Did you remove the rack on the top? what you are describing here is nothing more then a 3B. Forget about the gears, don't change them until you have the turbo. I did that mistake and regret it now. I went with gear then turbo...wrong, i should have went with turbo and i would have kept my 4.11
Get the turbo and go from there. BTW david told me the oil filter is mount upside down compared to a BJ42 and it may interfere with manifold?

Nothing wrong with dropping down a gear. Low rpm and lots of pedal melts the pistons.
Ignore the 18 wheelers, they have people slowing them down all day or they are doing the same to others.
You just have to put them out of your mind when driving a small slowish diesel otherwise it will drive you nuts.

Tough to ignore them when I'm going 45 and the trucks are going 75!!!!! Scary s*** seeing a big shiny Peterbuilt barreling down on you and nowhere to go.
The 70 has 3.70's in it. Definitely doing the turbo first because I will do more highway driving than wheeling so hopefully the turbo will maintain speed on hills. Otherwise the gearing will be the second upgrade. might have Wally do it.
Any suggestions on 13b-t manifolds and turbo set ups. I've looked at a few places and can't decide. Didn't know if there was a place giving them out for free that I didn't know about
I decided to go with the kit, simply because i knew i wouldn't have the time to look and search for all the bits and piece need, hose, elbow, clamps, banjo, etc....Just a new manifold and a turbo and you are close to 1500$ it was a no brainer to get the kit for a little more.
If you are ready to go with used part and you have plenty of time to search for the misc part, then sure it is a good option.

Manifold and Turbo will run me about $700 to $750. Intercooler is about $75. I'll likely dig around for the other parts. Should be fun to find those things anyway!
