Great just few weeks from HIH7....

I was driving to lunch today and driving normally I tried to pass someone and accelerated and it felt like i had half the power I usually do tach goes up but truck moves slow. I noticed the difference right away and started playing with the accelerator, and I definitively don't have full power. Went up a garage ramp and it drove up so slow. The best way I can describe it is it feels like my brakes are on or I'm pulling a heavy trailer, no hicups on the tranny (fluid changed at 40k) no hicups on the rpms no other signs.

Truck was previously driving fine, no other issues no CEL, no rough idling no other signs. Trucks is an 01 with 83k miles timing belt done at 47k. Original coils, fuel filter. Sparkplugs changed at 75k.

I need to get this resolved fairly quick. I did several searches and didn't match all my criteria.

Any ideas? I appreciate the help

Make sure brake isn't dragging. You can lift the truck and make sure each wheel spins. Also check to make sure one rotor isn't hotter than the rest after you drive.

I'm the furthest thing from a mechanic, but I'd continue to check the simple things like making sure the air filter is cleaned, or that the gas isn't bad. Makes me wonder if the computer is sensing something amiss and dialing everything back. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

get an IR heat gun and just point it at the wheels. you will know if you have one dragging if you get a reading way out of line with the other 3.

So the culpirt was a loose throttle cable. I don't know how it got so loose but it had 3/4" up/down play on the cable at the throttle body.

Nice and cheap!

[checks throttle cable] nope, mine's just slow as crap.

Hahaha.

Thanks everyone! another informational thread and experience for a future mudder that runs into this problem.

Even with the pedal floored to the bottom the throttle was not hitting the full open position/shift down point.

Its all good now after a long test drive. Who knows how so much slack was created overnight.

you guys would die in an 80, much less one with a 3FE...

i see why i stay out of the 100 forum most of the time :flipoff2:
