UPDATE:
So I had the chance to speak to the technician who did the repair at the dealer and got the following info from him. This is a picture of the hose that broke. His idea was that it was out of the clamp and rubbed against the crank pulley until it wore through. My guess is that I took it out of the clamp to do the alternator and then forgot to put it back in.
