Ok, so on Monday, we were traveling down Hwy 93 through Nevada trying to get home from a whirlwind trip through CA to see family. At one point about an hour out of Ely, I noticed that my cruise control stopped working and I could not set the speed. The Cruise light was lit. :frown: So I drove on. Just before coming into town (Ely), my VSC started going nuts, with the light on the dash and the alarm going off continuously.

Now, please note that on Monday, July 8 in Nevada, there was no snow, no ice, and no moisture to speak of. Plus we had been driving for over 2 hours since our previous stop, so no slick tires. No reason for the VSC to be going off. Once we slowed to 35, the alarm turned off. We stopped for gas, shutting down the engine, and when we restarted everything was back to normal?

Any ideas as to what the problem could be that would affect those two separate systems?

Thanks in advance,

Jonathan

Wheel speed sensors don't throw a code, but they will play games with the VSC and cruise control. I had my driver front wheel lock up on my going 80MPH due to a dirty sensor. I would pull them and clean them thoroughly.

Thanks Nick. I was planning on taking the 100 down to install the new lift, air bags, and service the wheel bearings on the front, so I will take a look at them at the same time. Any ideas as to why it would affect cruise control? That part mystifies me.

The cruise control won't set if it can't get a accurate speed. Imagine the truck trying to figure out what speed it's going if one sensor is jumping all over the place, it also thinks the truck is sliding.

Ahh, good point. I had not thought of that. I now have it parked until I can tear into it tonight. Thanks again for the input. It has really helped!

No. The cruise control had been maintaining speed all day long. No problem there. It just stopped accepting the set command in the middle of the drive. I will be taking the wheels off and cleaning the sensors this weekend and then will test it, but once we stopped everything went back to normal, so I am not sure I will see a difference any time soon.
