First I am new. Thanks to everyone for such a great source of info.

I took my 2001 to bestbuy to have a nav unit installed. The guy was confused about how to get the front trim off and I saw him with is trim tool prying on the AC knob. He then went over to his computer and after a google consult was able to remove the trim. When I got the truck back the the knob is all loose. I have to turn it past the any setting to get it to work.

The knob in question is the one on the far right.

Any thought about if there is just the knob or the switch. If it is the switch do I have to replace the whole uniit?

Any help is appreciated

I was scared to death doing this, but you will have to pull the knob off. There is a small nut on the shaft. Tighten it up and you're good to go. The tech may of stretched the plastic on the knob, so you may have to replace. Or glue it on tightly.

It was a little scary but when I pulled hard enough the knob slid right off. Took me all of 90 seconds to make the fix and put the knob back

This should solve my issue as well then... all three nobs loose over here. So you guys are saying I just have to suck it up and pull them straight off?

Yep. Mine was very loose, but took a lot of force to pull the knob off. I ended up wrapped pliers in a towel and pulling it.

Use a piece of duct tape as a handle. Squeeze the tape to the knob with one hand while pulling the handle with the other.
