Looking for semirough camping in sequoias

My son and I can't make it to my place in Canada this summer (money is too tight for the trip) but I want to take him camping a few times. I have never camped in the Sequoias up Hwy 198 and would like to explore the area a bit more.

I don't want to camp with RVs or a camp full of scouts. I am looking for semi-maintained campsites or nonmaintained sites. Anyone know of any rugged placed that my FJ Cruiser can get into (while the 40 is still sans transmission and on the possible block)

Trout fishing in streams is a must.

Why not go to big meadows and buck rock the trail we adopted

Dan just go up anywhere near dinkey, near all the trails , courtrite, wishon , lakes dinkey creek for fishin, camp anywhere along the road be as close or far awy from people you like

I went to belknap a few weeks ago it was fun other than the ladybugs and effen tree huggers won't let dfg stock the river

Hey Slick, do you have a Forest Service map? Look at the areas that Hudy is talkin' about. And look at your old post. Bear Creek Diversion Dam just shy of Lake Edison is one spot. Also try going down the road to Florence Lake and take the turn off to JackAss Medowes. (SP?) The area below the dam of Edison Lake is interesting also. Look at Google Earth. Additionally you can get a shower at Mono Hot Springs, and possibly a meal at their store.

Thanks James. I have Delorme Maps. I will take a look at that location tonight. Sounds like a plan. I'll jsut find a place that looks good and head towards it with my GPS. Needs to be driveable with the FJ Cruiser. Only stipulation. Thanks guys

This weekend I'll be 3 miles past dinkey creek bridge, look for the street sign that says swamp route , look to your right that's our camp.....


4 th of July weekend was talking about getting same spot we had last year, 1 mile past wooden restrooms on the right just after turn ing on to rockcreek rd.... On the right hand side also
