Why don't you just contact them and ask them what they use on their truck bed extensions? Or, if you are local to one of their dealers, go and visit them and look at the product and see what you can find out.

Any truck body builder will have those. I bought a 60" set rated at 500 lbs earlier this year. Was 300$ for the pair. I got them from selzi enterprises in Fresno CA. There should be something similar near you.

looked at McMaster-Carr

The rail length really kills what I consider within my budget install. Was thinking of doing entire length, but now, mabey not.

McMaster has the rollers you need for cheap, either track rollers or put bearings on shoulder screws for really cheap. I've supported some heavy things on bare bearings on shoulder screws. Use structural steel C-channel for track, and attach that to bent aluminum or steel for more support and to transition to your sliding platform.

You can do this reasonably cheap, but you'll need to get creative and really think things through. The design in that website is quite good but not cheap to accomplish, you need to make huge bends in those plates and have a way to put all your holes in accurately over a fairly long distance. A sheet metal shop can do most of that for you at a cost. A home-made version would be a little heavier and bulkier but can be done.

Scott,

Do you think this is such a good deal, that it would be a waste of my time and material to make my own? this is under 500 dollars minus the plywood or sheet metal aluminum.

For most people I'd say that's the way to go. If you have a lot of time on your hands, skills, and access to fabrication machinery, you could build something approaching that quality for less money and pride of doing it yourself. Good luck with it whichever way you go.

well, picked up a lincoln mig pack 100hd

I came across this unit, almost like new condition with aluminum c02 bottle and auto darkening visor. He advertised it for 275. I told him I had only 225 , so he took it.

Now, I wonder if used bed frame rails would make a good platform to hold the weight of a box and tools? I am sure thay are free and going to use them for other things.

thans, could not locate those

I like the idea of the v-grove units. Now, need to find the rails for these particular units.
