Is it a good idea to get a winch for a kawasaki side by side. This is primarily a vehicle for my son, and I wasn't sure if they were that useful if you could just man handle a side by side off most obstacles.

I have a Warn 4000 on a Warn bumper for my Rhino. I have to have a winch on mine. I do alot of trail riding in the mountains and we get back into the wilderness. It really all depends on what type of riding you do and what terrain you ride on. You won't man handle a SxS unless there is a group of you and even then there is no guarantee. I have seen situations where a group of people couldn't free a ATV without a winch helping. For a SxS I would go with at least a 4000lbs winch. Anything less on a SxS will not provide what you need. I have a 3000lbs on my ATV. I really like the Warn bumper as it keeps my winch out of the mud and keeps it accessable without having to dig in the mud to get to the cable. You state that this will be for your son. If he is like my son he has already wore out one synthetic cable on the ATV from using the winch so much. He is constantly pulling out his friends who don't have a winch. I think that he is on speed dial for several of his friends.

i have 2 winches on my quad and use them a lot one front and one rear when the quad is in over the seat in mud it cant be manhandled out .my winches are mounted up on the racks and are used for hauling trannys and axles around the house.having two winches gives me extended reach when winching out other folks.

Thanks, that's what I needed to know.

Peter
