Hey guys,

I'm looking for a motor for my FJ80. My current engine has a knock. Willing to pick up anywhere in or around Austin, San Antonio, Houston, etc.

Thanks.

Sounds like a good excuse for a V8. :D

Believe me, the V8 option is being seriously considered. I have an RX7 I have swapped an LS6/T56 setup into, so I am familiar with the effort required and the large smiles to be had once completed.

My biggest stumbling block is overall cost of the swap. The transfer case adapters for the 4L60E from Mark's Adaptors is $1,500 (anyone have another option?), plus the cost of the motor/trans, motor mounts, misc custom lines, etc.

Has anyone local completed the swap in an FJ80?

Texican 'may' have the Marks adapter for the 350 to A440F. I would do the 700R4 to a "split" LC case.

I do have the one out of the Whale for sale, It belongs to Kristie, so I will have to clear anything with her.....

Ok, don't flame the n00b... What is a split LC case? :)

I'm interested if it's for sale. Let me know. Will it work for just the first gen block or second/third gen GM blocks also?

Thanks guys.

The outer adapter, will fit any Chevy from '55 on, however the flywheel portion of the adapter will fit '86-99.......which covers your TBI, Vortec, LT1 etc......

I know I may be on my own here, but why put in an American engine that might last 1/3rd as long as a toyota engine? Seems like it would be easier to buy a new pick-up with a V-8. 2 cents MIke

You have a gutless inline 6 lugging around way too much weight.....the 3FE should have never been installed in a vehicle the size of FJ62/80.

GM350 is arguably the best motor ever made. The new Gen II and III stuff have such clean injection systems that they will last every bit as long as a Toyota engine.

Of course, the cars fall apart before the motor does, but that is why we like Toyotas....

If its gutless.......why drive one?

I don't.....the 2 models of Land Cruisers which I will never drive are the FJ62 or the 91-92 80.....unless it is Mark Mellonworth's immaculate H55 swap, the 5 spd and the tweaks he has done to the engine make it a joy.

I personally love the look of a nicely done FJ80. The motor from the factory was a bit of a dog, and mine is going out. The cost for a good used 3FE is around $1,400 and anyone who has one that is newly rebuilt wants crazy money.

I have an LT1 (w/ all accessories, harness, ecu, etc..) with low miles I previously picked up for $500.

Having done an LS6/T56 swap to my RX-7, I've seen every comment possible including the "you're stealing the car's soul" comment ~10,000,000 times. I'm personally a believer in building best vehicle possible, if that includes putting an excellent American engine into a great foreign vehicle, so be it.

Any luck?

I've got a spare complete 3FE if you are still interested....plus trans and transfer case. PM me. Shane

Sweet :D

LT1J-80s are cool.

(although not as cool as the lexus v8/6 speed auto 80 series the guy in SLC did :grinpimp:)
