Traded in the landcruiser on a 06 with 103k miles but it feels "soft" over the bumps, (my wife says thats how it's suppose to feel, that I use to the old LC) I want to lift it a bit, would like to run up to a 33" tire, 275/70/17's or 285's. My original plan (and maybe still) was to add a spacer to the front and trick the back to get something around a 2" - 3" lift in the front and 1.5" or so in the back. Also, gotta keep running boards on so wife can get in...

Now I'm thinking of new shocks all around and I've read so many different set ups. It sounds like a big problem with the rear is if you go with a longer shock you risk an air bag slipping out. A few options I've seen are:

Go with spacers in front, trick the rear, see what happens...

Bilstine 5100's all around, lose the ride control (which is fine)(seems to be the cheapest upgrade)

ome 885 springs with 9000 shocks (around 2" in front), 9000's in rear

coilovers up front, expensive, I won't be wheeling hard anyway

I've also read that you need to do uca's if going over 2" in the front

Seems the majority of the lift threads are a few years old, just not sure what's the latest/easiest way to go.

You got a GX??

Yes, guess it does look confusing, I traded my 98 LC in on a 06 GX.

welcome brother! Running a spacer in the front and tricking the rear bags is the most economical way to go about it but, with a 33" tire you may still have some serious rub with only a 2" lift on the front.

Thats why I went ahead and did a radflo adjustable setup, so I could make certain I didnt have clearance issues and to maintain ride height under the load of the steel bumper and winch I designed. Yes, typically the upper control arms will be at their limit, but I've been running mine for a little while now without any detriment. I fully expect to replace them with some aftermarket UCA's sometime in the future though.

Is it your wifes daily or yours?

Well the LC was mine so in theory the GX was suppose to be but apparently the wife doesn't think so since she's been driving it more than me...

My job provides me a car so mine usually sit more than being driven, she didn't drive the LC much because it was hard for her to get in/out of. I told her last night I was taking the running boards off this weekend and going to lift it, she didn't like the idea :-(, but she'll come around...

I've ordered a timing belt/water pump kit from rockauto and will have my local guy change it out and go over the suspension. If all still checks out I'll probably add the spacers and trick the bags for awhile and see how it works till I'm sure I need to replace suspension parts and go from there.

I really don't care about the ride control stuff so if I do need to replace the shocks/struts I will go aftermarket.

I'm in the same boat. My wife was the same way before, but now says it looks wimpy without all of it's armor on.
