Hi,
I just purchased a 96 LX450 and am looking for a local, trustworthy mechanic for some basic preventative maintenance. The truck is in outstanding shape, is pretty much stock at this point, and has 129k miles on it. I just want to have it looked at by someone who knows what to look for in terms of checking the fluids, hoses, etc. and make some recommendations as to what I should do to prevent any future issues. Also, the CEL just came on (P040) and I could use some help in doing what needs to be done to turn it off. And, of course, it would be great to meet some local LC owners and learn more about the club!
Thanks and best-
-J

Is Jay willing to do things that aren't necessarily specific to to FSM? I have a master cylinder piston that's starting to exhibit issues that are common on the 100 and documented here on MUD. Toyota only wants replace the whole assembly ($1400) whereas the fix is just the piston and re-bleeding. Brake fluid jobs are above my banana rank currently and since I'm taking it cross-country I want it done with someone who knows the LC

Boyce automotive has treated me well and allowed me to bring a carb rebuild kit to them and just charged for labor.

Jay and his mechanics at Renaissance did a pile of work on my 99 back in January. New steering rack, complete timing belt service with WP, several replacement hoses, new alternator, diff drop, ironman lift and some bushings. I've been all over the truck since then and they did a great job, fair price, and I supplied all parts ( that was a job in itself ). They even used the oil drain plug seal I had buried in one of the several boxes, so I trust them on the details.
