jrhaze- what litter are you looking at and who is the stud? if they shipped semen in it is probably a good thing because people usually only ship semen and artificially inseminate if they are looking for a certain attribute to cross to their female and usually choose a championship line. don't worry about that. i can help you read the pedigree if you need help. lemme know.

I have an email out to the breeder right now asking for the names and pedigree of both the parents. When he gets back to me I'll post it here.

I haven't asked about the personality of the dogs, only because apparently my brain is shutting down everytime I type an email out to him. I need to remember to ask that.

I did ask if the pups I would be looking at and choosing from are "show quality" - this question was suggested to me by a co-worker. Just to see what his response is more than anything I guess. I guess I'll know what he thinks of the pups by his answer?

I'm surprised at how much there is to learn!

make sure you see healt/hip certs... althouth i would continue to encourage you to rescue rather than to buy:frown:

it actually applies to most shelter dogs. they start off as cute little puppies in someone's home...lots of purebreds even and when they can't give them away in the paper they get dumped in a shelter like unwanted trash. they don't have a choice. some are just let out the dorr of what was once their home because it is too much work to potty train them and are never welcome back

do you really think that feral dogs are and were always feral in city and suburban neighborhoods?

well what ever gives you the warm and fuzzies, i guess. i have seen differently unfortunately :frown:

That is a generalization about shelter dogs and does not apply to all. However, all dogs are work and puppies are even more.  :flipoff2:

so i have a pit bull- so what? does that really matter that much to you? i actually have 3 :|

if i had norfolk terriers would that make my posts more valid?

jesus :|

I can see that you have an abiding love for pit bulls, but I do not find in your posts anything to indicate that you have an abiding love for Land Cruisers or even a real interest in Land Cruisers.

This causes me to wonder how you learned of this site and why you are posting here. I wonder also how you would you react if I or other members of this board started posting about Land Cruisers, gubs, cheerleaders, and such on the spbr.org forums?

I know 6 people that have successfully adopted a good shelter mutt. All are happy and would do it again. My sample size is 6, so take it for what it's worth but there were no horror stories...no returns to the shelter.

We see differently, I just hate to see people using scare tactics to...well...what's this s*** about you being a patsy for Eric?:flipoff2:

Of course none of them were pitbulls, which I think your theory probably appllies to correctly. :flipoff2:

i actually do have an interest... and i like this forum- i get a kick out of it --to me that is good enough reason.

i also belong to a fishing forum- do i have to actively fish?

oh and also a flooring forum...don't do that for a living either.

your avatar is striking btw :|

actually i just happen to be rather passionate about this subject.

and because my opinion varies from yours you get you panties in a bunch.:princess:

you all have this "loaded gun stereotype" about pit bulls so far imbedded into your skulls by the media that you are not willing to even hear anything else...:pig:

take a look at some real bite statistics and stop buying your breeder cocker spaniels and labs. because they are on the top of the list.

Don't generalize about everyone on this forum. I certainly have no prejudices against pit bulls. All the ones I have met have been wonderful. While a few dogs are naturally incorrigible, I believe the behavior of the dog is a reflection of the owner. Pit bulls have a bad rap because they are popular among drug dealers and white trash, not the best role models. This is certainly not meant to be disrespectful of all the upstanding citizens who own and properly train their pit bulls to be as well behaved as the next dog. Pit bulls are not inherently evil. Before anyone ever heard of a pit bull, German Shepherds and Doberman Pinschers were the bane of evil in the dog world.

i apologize-- that was not directed toward all :D

for a purebred dog, the breeder is most important. as i said earlier, i have a wheaten terrier that i was given (because the owners child wasnt nice to it and she cared about the wellbeing of the dog). it was obvious to me that it was inbred (not quite perfect physique and incredibly stupid...she's 9 years old and marginally housebroken), so i checked on the breeder and the "pedigree". mother and father 1 akc registration number apart. the pedigree had 2 dogs 6 times. and the "breeder" also bred 10 other breeds. puppy mill. on the other hand, i have a wheaten from a reutalbe breeder. found her(the breeder) through the club. i live on long island...she lives in toronto, so i couldnt visit. but so many club members knew her, and her dog. the stud dog was imported from new jersey because his blood line had NO crosses with the mother's blood line. that's good breeding. he's perfect. he could be a champion...but i neutered him as per the contract. i had no problem with the contract for 2 reasons...1. i don't want to be a breeder 2. they do it so people dont carelessly breed the dogs. it's for their love of the breed that they do that and i'm ok with it. he's also incredibly smart.....never have to walk him, just open the door and say "get in the cage" and he goes to a spot we used to have a dog run and does his business then comes back in. at bedtime i tell him to get to bed and he just walks up the stairs into my boy's room and goes in his crate and goes to sleep. tells us when he's hungry, thirsty, wants to go out, wants to play. so different from the puppy mill dog (though we love her just as much because she's so sweet...she's just a pain in the ass).
oh, and crate train whatever dog u get. dogs are den animals, so if u NEVER make it a punishment spot, he/she wont think of it like that....it's their place to go to be alone. and if u travel u can take their haven with you.

good luck

rescue a dog - every breed has a group or go to your local pound, nonprofit - just don't buy one. I went to Lab rescue and found the sweetest young lab needing a permanent home - she's now 5 - and gets a new Orvis nest bed tomorrow, 09/13/06 - yipee! :bounce2:
