I have problem of whining rear 3rd member. It has been whining for a long time, I got whine almost right after i bought my LC in May 2010. It is most likely the outer pinion bearing. I probably over greased my rear drive shaft and it made the bearing to start falling.

I am not comfortable to change the pinion bearing by myself and setting up the diff. And I also dont have the right tools for this project too. So i am looking if anybody knows a good shop which can do it for me or if some of the local Cruiserheads have time and experience working with diffs can help me out. I am not in rush but i want to deal with this problem in some near future. I live in London but I drive sometimes to Kingston and Midland to see my relatives. So location wont be a big issue.

I wanted to ask this question for a while during the local club meeting but i could not attend one yet as school is keeping me busy and when I have time there is no meetings happening. Like right now:crybaby:

Will appreciate any input and Happy Cruising everyone!

i was just gonna say, ask landblazer!

Hi guys,

I'm in the same boat, only I have the front pinion bearing whining. No specific tools, no garage and DD make repairs like this a bit of a challenge. Anyone you would recommend?

Thanks in advance,

Igor

on the 80 it usually isn't the front pinion bearing that is gone but the actual wear on the reverse cut crown and pinion. the only cure is to replace the center unit.
