Hi, I'm new to this forum and new to TLC. I'm looking for a *J40 with a hardtop with ambulance doors and jump seats that I can take out on the trail and not get upset when I ding it up a bit. Of course 78 and up is better but drum brakes will Pretty much any FJ40 or BJ40 that I've seen for sale for more than $10K (and isn't overpriced) is too nice for me to want to take out on the trail. I'm not looking for something with a chevy engine and 38" tires. If there's a trail near me that requires that kind of rig - I have no business being on it anyways. I need something that I can drive on the highway to get to the trails. I would prefer to have a truck with a correct Toyota engine (gas or diesel works) The wife would kill me if I brought home one of those extreme trail rigs that needs to be trailered home from the trail. I'm thinking that something in the range of 31" to 35" tires will suit my needs. I don't need something to use as a daily driver. This would be the 4th vehicle in the garage. I don't need a heap that is in constant need of repair either, my free time is limited and I would rather spend my time driving a new toy as opposed to laying under it my tools. I'm not opposed to making some repairs to bring something up to where I need it, but I want to know what I'm getting into ahead of time so that I can budget accordingly. The engine and drivetrain need to be in good working order. I don't need to go down that rabbit-hole. I can live with a modest amount of body rust, but I don't want to deal with rusted out frames or tubs that I would fall apart if I bumped them too hard. I can live with a bit of ugly, but a prettier truck will get me in less trouble with the wife. (but not too pretty - the point of it is to take it on the trail) Neat stuff like switchable lockers, a full floating rear end, a winch, a soft top, half doors and RHD are all bonuses and factory cable lockers or a PTO winch doubly so, but none are required. Something close by would be nice but I can arrange transport for the right truck. I would factor transport costs into my total budget. I would like to spend less than $8000 to purchase the truck, get it in my garage and get it on the trail. Less is better and I would be willing to spend a little more for the right truck. I've been looking around and I believe that there are a few trucks for sale out there that may fit what I'm looking for. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks
