Ive liked them and the pricing of low miles used ones has dropped enough for me to be able to get one pretty handily. Here is my question though, there seem to be a variety of builds out there. I would love a 6MT but the Toyo website is saying that that is a full time 4wd model so in the interest of mpg, I should be looking at an 5AT? Also, did the rear electrical plug come only with the upgraded stereo? Im not all that interested in the subwoofer enclosure taking up space in the back but I would however love to have the electrical plug to run some things while camping. Also, the rack. I would like to run a roof tent but the rails are pretty fat. Are there adapter crossbars available? Thanks.

The FJ isnt known for its outstanding mileage in the first place, the debate between MT and AT just depends on the driver, yes the MT is all time 4 wheel drive. You can always add the plug yourself, I dont have one, but have been told the after market ones are a lot better then the ones you get from factory. IF you want to run a roof tent, then you definately need a upgrade, so you might as well look for one without the factory roof rack...hope this helps
the MPG is what it is... but really depends on driving habits and what mods you do... big tires, heavy bumpers, roof top stuff... wont help any... but make for a fun ride off road.
The inverter came with different packages over different model years. If it is not included don't despair, the wires are all there and you need need to add an inverter.
as for roof top tents it all depends on the model and mounting... Corey has his tree house mounted on top of the factory roof rack.

I have a 6MT and I get 18-19 mpg.I also put an ARB roof rack on.You can load it up like Jed Clampett or put any RTT up there.

+Plusses include the short wheelbase and overall reliability of Toyota.
-Minuses (for some) include the small back seats, rear visibility and the aforementioned not so great mileage.
GENRALLY speaking, aftermarket add-on's are ussually more rugged (and competetively priced) than OEM options (like the 120 volt inverter)

Check the price of an auto vs. the MT... then factor mpg and run the calcs on how long you'd have to drive one to offset the additional cost... I have the MT soley because it's a blast to drive!
I wish I had NOT gotten the factory rack. I'd trade it in a heartbeat for a BajaRack - similar cost too.
And, I'm not sure the FJ gets the wiring for the inverter (if you don't get the factory inverter). I thought I read that, contrary to expectations, the sub and inverter were only wired if you got these options.
Now the ATRAC (front dif) that's all there - skip the option and just buy the button!
