Is it the 4.0 V6 with the 3.73 R&P? Manual or Auto?

I'm actually looking at a few around 06 -07. I heard the auto's get the best mpg cause the manuals cant shift as accurately and efficiently.

I hate searching for a new car... too many darn choices!

Mine is auto and the v6 and also the 3.73 r/p... Wish that was a 4.11, actually.
When i was looking, I was looking at the manual, but learned the same thing you did, that the manual didn't get quite as good of mileage.
Im fighting w/ myself on getting a 3 in lift and 33's. Thing is SCREAMING for a lift!!!

Matt,

Keep in mind that the TRD Sport has the suspension/shocks of the TRD, but not the locker and of course the stupid hood scoop, that when I drove one, was in the way and it's for looks only.

Hold out for a TRD only, then you get the locker.

If you can swing a 2nd gen tacoma, I think you will like it better, more room and I think they get the same or better mileage.

Cool, thanks guys.

Keith, I searched quite a bit looking for the different gear ratios for the newer tacomas. I found a site ( post a link later, on my phone now..) that said only the extended cab trucks had different r&p ratios. All the 4 door models have 3.73's. I'd like to find a 4.10 truck but only if I get the extended cab it seems like...

The site has model #'s that correspond to what ratio the truck is. Some of the codes on the website for 3.73's are GNR245L-CRADKA, and some codes for the 4.10 trucks look like TRN245L-CRMDKA. Do you see a code like that on your door sticker? I'm hoping to have a way of knowing what I've got if I look at a truck in person.

Jack, that sounds good to me. Im liking the newer trucks more and more... The link I posted at the top of the page says it's a sport, but it has a picture of the locker switch? Wonder what the deal is with that truck.... Hmm... Maybe they have the add titled wrong...

Thanks for the help guys! Hopefully I'll find something soon

I'll have to check on that then. I do have the ext. Cab.
Like I said though, initially... I hated my truck because it felt so much like a CAR. Until I got to wheel it! I was so pleased with how it did on the trails.
I wouldn't take it on rubicon or anything, but for general off road... It did great. Ran through death valley twice including s. Park which is a pretty tricky run down there for general wheeling. It had no issues either. You'll know what I mean when you put it in double low. It crawls very nice, even down hill where you have engine brake with an auto.
Mine is NOT a trd either.

Cool, thanks guys.

I does look like they have it titled wrong, no hood scoop. That is the giveaway between a TRD and a TRD Sport. And as you have noted, the locker switch of course.:)

This is the VIN for the truck I posted at the top of the page.... Copy the vin and search it in google. Pretty interesting what comes up... Click on the first link in google.

And to think I was about to drive to Utah...

Wow, good thing you looked that up. I wonder if Utah is a place that will "clean" a salvage title? Some states won't continue to list a title as a salvage. Luckily, the internet saves the day.

Good luck on the hunt.
