Hey guys,

I have a 2010 4Runner that I lifted and have done a few other things to. I love it but really want an LC 100 series too and have cleverly told my husband that this LC will be his.

I have been looking for months and have recently gotten serious about it. Since doing some homework here, I have not considered LCs with nav. But now a good one is available pretty close to me and it has nav. It is working, but I am worried that if it fails it is a 2k fix. Am I right to assume that no one has successfully overcome this issue without spending a lot of money? I want to make sure I didn't miss something in all I read.

I would rather spend 2k on tires and a lift, but this truck looks good...

I haven't had an issue with my 2002 nav. It wasn't a deciding factor for me. You can add Bluetooth and reverse cam to it as a bonus but the chance of it actually going bad is slim.

I like my tech. I did not want a NAV as i wanted to upgrade the radio. You'll be stuck with it for as long as you own the vehicle...food for thought.

Thanks very much for the replies. We are going to see it tomorrow and if we bring it home I'll post pics. I wasn't aware that Bluetooth could be added to the LCs with nav. Gotten pretty spoiled having it in the 4runner and my husband's truck, so could be nice in this.

I have a 2002 LC with Nav. The CD-ROM won't read the disc. The radio and a/c controls work fine. I'm not sure how much it is to fix. Right now I use the Gogroove Bluetooth and Siri on my iPhone for navigation. Works well for me, I don't have to type in destinations. But a back up camera would be nice.

I had the same problem as yourbeloveddictator^^^^^ I replaced the nav cd-reader with a used one from a 2005 Prius. I got it from eBay. Is been working flavlessly for over a year, it did came with is own cd. $250 fix. I did removed the seat entirely to do the swap. Good luck with the purchase. No backup camera on the 02s that I know of.

Don't choose it because of cost to repair, choose for choice of upgrading radio possibly in future.

Good to know the Prius one works. I might try that. I haven't seen a 98-02 with a backup cam option either. I found a video interface adapter on eBay that adds a backup cam, aux video and iPhone to the factory nav screen.

yes, the Nav is a potential problem, and no, there is no epidemic of them failing. It's kind of an exciting story to tell when they do fail but there are very few of those stories. And it seems like there are some reasonably priced ways to handle the problem if it were to arise.
I would not worry about it too much if the rest of the truck is great. It might come into the picture if I had to choose between 2 otherwise identical trucks but that's the only time i would think about it.

The nav has proven to be quite reliable. To me, the biggest disadvantage with an older system is/are the mapping changes that of course over time. Be it a new subdivision, etc. Certain helps to make sure to update to the newest version of the nav software available.

My Generation 2/3 disc reader broke and I found a used one (Generation 4) at the salvage yard from I think a Prius. Same unit in several Toyotas. Cost me about $200. Fairly easy to install. Did it with passenger seat in place. I believe the gen 2/3 has some part that breaks down easily so better to get the next generation.

Bought it. Well loved and well cared for. Water pump, timing belt, new battery all recently. Has a few little dings and scratches that we'll worry about after making sure it needs nothing now mechanically. Drives like a dream. I plan on spending a lot of time here to read up on 100s.

Congratulations on your purchase. Continue to care for it well and enjoy it!
