I'm looking to purchase a 2003 LX470 at a local dealer for the wife to replace our 2009 Honda Pilot. I've checked the VIN on the Lexus website in combination with carfax and I cannot find any indication of whether the T-Belt has been replaced. Is there an indication such as a seal or similar under the hood that indicates whether replacement has been made? The truck is selling for $19,500 and has approx 135k. Looking forward to purchasing a 100 series ;)

I recently purchased a vehicle and thought it needed a T-belt change; so I worked it in the price. After owning it for a a few weeks, I noticed the sticker was on the inside of the hood, and not on/near the engine. So, look up as well. Even the dealer missed that one.

Any Lexus dealer can pull service history for you, too.

I found an 04' at a local Hyundai dealership last weekend for $24,000 with 125k. It was definitely a grocery getter. Very clean cosmetically and from what I can see mechanically. Carfax and VIN were clean on lexusdrivers.com. After spending about 2hrs inspecting everything, I ended up offering $20,800 and they took it. Sorry, no pics yet. I'll post up with a pic next to my 80 series.

However, I have another question: I declined at the time, but have been having second thoughts. What is the consensus on extended warranties? Their "top of the line" warranty costs $2600 and covers 2yrs (sorry no additional specs at this time). I will have to have the car inspected this Thursday for state tags as I purchased it in an adjoining state. I'm just worried about the AHC system and DVD/Nav/Camera.

In my experience there are very few aftermarket service plans that are worth the money. The programs sponsored by the manufacturers are the best (Toyota, Lexus, etc.). I think the best thing to do is read the plan cover to cover and note what it includes/excludes and what types of replacement parts you receive for a covered repair... Reman, OEM, etc.

The high dollar items like you say are the Nav, Ahc. The power steering rack will leak eventually, but its not very expensive like the AHC components can be. Keep the fluid changed out in the AHC and don't let jiffy lube try to fill the reservoir with water (it happens oddly enough). LX470 is one of the best/rugged vehicles ever made I wouldn't worry too much.
