So how much value is there in an all original unmolested platform from the original owners ? Two rust spots and the seams have little rust cracks settling in . The VM 2.5 seems to run well but with several known problems . Heater coils are not working so starting in cold weather is a task . A/c not operating . What concerns me is motor oil oozing up thru a bolt on the top of the engine which seams to be connected to a rail system . Great vehicle to re-power .

I would only consider it based on what rust condition you are satisfied with. Then start planning an engine swap.

So sounds like a Spain Model BJ73. The 2.5 imo drops value quite a bit.
2.5 VM motors are like you said, plan for a swap sooner than later.
If you can see rust coming through, there is ALWAYS more hanging out. Might not be terrible but...
Do you have any pictures of this rig?
The value to me would be (I assume) left hand drive, clean BJ73 not all beat up.
