Longest lasting MTR?

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm wondering if I should just get another set of ATs I've got 40k on my BFGs and while they still have plenty of tread they are starting to chunk like mad. I can only imagine the torture on an MT. The loose lava roads in Kau, like Manuka bay, Road to the sea etc. really seem to tear up tires. I can always find 6 or 8 new chunks missing after every trip.
Do you all think that as the rubber compound ages, tires tend to chunk more?

Personally, when I selected tires for my junk now. I selected a tire that would work in Hawaii (moving back is my backup plan in case I get laid off)

Most of the terrain I encountered was lava rock and fine silt. I do appreciate some good ATs or MTs after I almost rolled a rental jeep at south point headed to green sands last winter right after a rain. That silt turned to clay and would not clean out of the tread.

Anyways I decided on the falken wildpeak ATs. They work good. Do some research on them.

Thanks again for all the feedback. I will probably get the KM2s if I decide on an MTR. those pics of Snakeeaters are just impressive.
Rwhat, I know how dangerous that clay soil at South point can get when it rains. When I had my first 4WD back in the day in SoCal I once slid fifty feet sideways down a hill. now that was some pucker factor!

I love the look of the km2 but if you are going to wheel it I would look elsewhere. Several people I know have them and a few have sold them because the sidewalls slice too easily

I actually got 42k out of my Maxxis Bighorns. When I sold them @ 42k they had 7/32nd left of tread. I did have a 5 tire rotation and rotated every 5k miles.

I sold my Rubicon with old style 35" GY MTRs that had 36K on them and still had good tread left. Had some small chunks missing from wheeling and 2 screws I picked up along the way imbedded in them. I have been an exclusive GY MTR user for the last 8 years on 4 vehicles now with no flats. I usually upgrade tire sizes before I wear them out.
As the moment I have been looking for something else due to I do alot of road miles to get anywhere living in Texas and would like to stick with E rated tires which they don't offer in GY MTR 35's. I don't have anything bad to say about them besides that.

Not really in the same "class " but my boggers are wearing quickly.... They were on a offroad only Jeep for 11 years and didn't look like they wore at all.

No offense meant but I wouldn't drive at high speeds on the highway with 11 year old tires. They'll probably be OK but it isn't really advisable.

New boggers won't feel good at highway speeds either. I've never seen an actual round one, so old ones probably won't feel any worse. That said, I agree, I wouldn't want to beat around on old tires at high speeds.

They do have E rated 35" MTR tires on an 18" & 20" rim

Very rarely does it get on the highway. Its more just around town. They are unbalanced and they are very smooth. As smooth as I think boggers can be anyway

I think the Toyo MT wins this round IMHO. Considered by many to be the toughest and longest lasting MT by many heavy diesel truck owners, I got 60,000 miles out of the set on my f350 crew cab powerstroke. I wasn't gentle at all with them and never had an issue. I don't think I would put them on my 80 though because they use a harder rubber compound, which compromises off road performance. That's the biggest issue I think looking for a long lasting MT.

Try to see what 4wheelparts has also and wait for a sale. They also will price match other places (don't know if that help) I'm not sure what young brothers charges for shipping from Oahu.

I'm getting ready to buy some new tires, and I'm wondering, is anybody getting more than 20 or 30k on mud tires?

Going to bump to the top. This question is pestering me night and day. I called discount tire to get a price quote for 37" 12.5 17's
TOYO is $400 ea.
NITTO $406 ea.
KM2 $410 ea.
GYMTR $386 ea.

Just bought 5 new KM2's last night! We will see how they hold up....

Got 105k on Firestone Destination MT, with 5 tire rotation every time I changed my oil.
