Hello to all,
Just bougt this 1998 LC with 180K on her here in MX, but it is not a beauty queen by any means, this is my second LC that I'v owned. Just glad this was not the first one I'v owned.
Currently I reside in PV Mexico for now, have traveled through MX numerous time in the past years. I ended up buy a home here and am planing to stay here indefinitely.
Before buying this LC, I found that this LC has minor issues' . This LC was in a minor fender bender on the passenger side as the front bumper cover/fender/two passenger doors were repainted and missing the front lower inner finder splash shields on each side. The repair was not done very well at all, but the frame and core-support was never compromized from this fender bender.
The wind shield is an after market and it is cracked and chipped and might be leaking.
The timing belt was replaced at 120 some K.
Missing the lower side steps, but I would ditch those ASAP any ways.
Missing the rear wing.
Missing all four hubcaps.
The steering rack is moving with in the rubber grommets, now I have ordered the poly SPF2470K kit as per site recommendation as the front end is wondering where ever.
The power steering is leaking.
Thier is a minor oil leak down towards the front botom of the motor, although not very much oil on the ground when parking in the same spot for three days.
The AC evap might be leaking. Bought a used evap from Cruiser parts.com
It needed the lower ball joints as they were loose.
New break pads and rotors all the way around.
Everything options and controls work down to the interior lights and power ports.
The motor is quiet, and runs very well.
The trans is smooth with firm shifts.
Offered 5K for it, I ended up getting it for $5k I thought it was a good price being that my search in the USA on many sites, there were no 1998 LC going for this low of a price from private owners with the same mileage.
Sense I bought here, I have changed the motor oil/transmission/both diffs/transfer case, flushed out the brake fluid, radiator.
The rear diff had water in it, but all of the other fluid looked great.
Changed out the lower ball joints.
Ordered/installed the rear wing.
Painted the wheels black.
From reading the info searched here on this forum, I suspect the front wind sheild might/was leaking (rust on the lower dash board brackets and water stains on ac box) in the past as the WS is after market and not toyota. Now the rainy season is here...indeed I was right about this.
So I bought two tubes of heavy duty black RTV and went to work resealing around the inside of the WS. I ended up cutting away some of the WS glue at the spots that was leaking water and resealed those areas with RTV. I do not plan on replacing the WS here in MX, a new install just might be just as worse as this install.
After owning this for about two weeks the rear wiper came on one day out of the blue (I had thought maybe I had turned the rear wiper on by mistake, that was unlikely being I owned one in the past, I can find and operate all the controls with my eyes closed)
Any ways I did do a seach for this but this topic is incomplete/no fix to this odd problem? I ordered a wiper and relay from cruiser parts to see if it will fix it.
I did do this.....When the wiper was running on and on I had disconected each and every conector one by one from every electronic box that I could find.
Some say in the post that the ECU controls the rear wiper functions, I don't think its so because I disconnected each connector one by one on this ecu and the wiper never turned off at any time.
If I could find a fix for this I would happy as I do use this rear wiper.
Any ideas?
