Cool, they must be using the disassemble, ship body, frame, and mechanical in three separate containers method, and then get a grey title when it arrives method to import. That would also explain the almost $70K price tag for that 2002 they have. Mine was only ~$41K new in Dubai.

As crazy as it sounds, I would have considered that strategy for mine if I had known about it at the time.

Most of them are 1980s models with brand new drivetrains and interiors. The conversions are done over there and the entire truck is shipped over. :steer:

Welcome, where about in Houston are you?

I just picked up a 100 that will be getting a lift ect soon.

Let me know if you want to go play, I've got a few local places we could wheel.

I'm near Katy, that would be cool to learn some of the local places. The only places I know of to offroad are near Austin. :)

There is a guy here in Houston who has a new (2010 or so) 70 series truck. That's how he got it over here, disassembled it, put it into three separate containers, shipped it from the middle east, cleared the containers through customs, reassembled, applied for a "grey title", then licensed it. I was told that in three years he can get a normal title.

It's a damn cool truck but that sure is a lot of hassle. I would have been afraid of something going wrong with customs or when trying to registering the truck and then being stuck with something you can't drive on road or can't clear through customs.

a friend of mine used the container method to ship a Nissan Skyline from japan. He never titled it here in the texas and only trailerd it to race tracks.

The freakin FBI/DEA/ATF??(forget what arm of the gov) ASSs reposesed the vehicle a year ago and there is nothing he can do about it. This was part of a national crack down on grey market vehicles...so be warned.

Im in north houston and there are a few places up here that would be worth the trip.

also check out www.centraloverland.com There is a trip to the hill country coming up in a few weeks that will surely be fun.

What is this I hear? A Texas wheeling trip??? Do we need to start a new thread?

For the central overland hill country trip?

I'm only a patron of central overland, it would be up to wes(centraloverland on here) to want to start a thread.

Hey Saillaw, please don't take this the wrong way but it would be much easier to follow your thread if you used the multi-quote button.

If you need to respond to multiple posts just click the "multi-quote" button on the lower right of their post. Then scroll down to the next post that you would like to respond to and click the "multi-quote" button again. Keep on doing this until you have quoted all posts that you would like to respond to. Finally, just click the "post reply" button located at the lower left at the end of the thread. You will now see that your reply window is populated with all of the comments you would like to respond to. Just start typing after each quote and when you select "Submit Reply", it will look a lot cleaner. Hope this helps!

I'm still drooling over that D110!!!
