Hey,
im looking at extending the standard 85L fuel tank in my bj74.
Q. What are my best options
-will a 73s 150L fit in the place of the 85L?
-Has any one done this before and will the sender just re-attach?
-will a 60s 120L fit in the rear in the place of the 85L
Cheers Damien

A 70,73/74,75, and maybe the 76,78,79 are compatable.Sub tanks from the cab chassis are not.
I dont know about the 60 series ,but the chassis rails are slightly further apart on a 60 so maybe it would be tight on a 7*
There is also some room between the rear axle and gearbox that you can use for a 30-40 litre auxillary tank.
I think you have to reroute the exhaust

It appears there are a few availble in Oz for the 75 76 78. I didnt see any for a 74. I guess we need to find out for sure what fits what.

The tank in a 73/74 is identical to the rear tank on a 75,I think they even share the same part number,so the long ranger tanks are also interchangeable.

EDIT: the 75 has 3 part numbers for the sub tank(rear) but one is the same as a 73/74 series(77100-60280)

They dont mention 73s and 74s much in Aussie aftermarket catalogs any more as they are fading from memory.
They are more interested in those who are buying new vehicles and hopefully want to spend even more on accessories.

One option is to fabricate a 2 X 20 litre swing fuel rack, for a total of 130 litres of fuel. I also have storage for chain saw fuel and 5 lb. propane on top the rack. The whole thing pulls out a sleeve. Picture open and closed

Thats a cool option and heaps cheaper than LR tanks and you dont need a 1000klm range every day of the week.

I fab my onw aux gas tank its hould 87 litres but you have to move the Exhaust system. I goin to take some pics I can give the plans

Nice truck! I do like a silver-on-black 74..

..although apparently the owners leave a lot to be desired. In Oz anyway..;)
