I tried searching the threads but couldn’t find an answer. Apologies if this has been posted before.

Will a LRA 40gallon replacement tank interfere with installing Slee Skid Plates.

Other than cost and weight, what are the downsides?

I know it interferes with the Dissent skids (I forgot who it was but someone on here had to heavily modify the transfer case skid for it to fit - I imagine that's probably the case with the Slee setup as well), so I decided to get the 40 gal aux tank instead. Not sure on the Slee skids but wanted to add that info to the conversation.

Only downside i ever saw for the 40 gal LRA replacement was that it hung an extra few inches lower than the stock tank.

Just posted basically the same question and this thread popped up. Did you ever get any resolution on this?

Hey guys and gals,

I am thinking of replacing the oem fuel tank with the LRA long range tank moving it from 25 to a 40 gal capacity. My question is: Is there a skid plate that will fit over(under) the tank to protect it since I am guessing this tank sits a bit lower? From my understanding, the LRA fuel tanks are metal and fairly tough, but the extra protection would be nice. Based on info from multiple sources, the separate aux fuel tank is not the way to go as apparently the aftermarket fuel pump is trash. Be that as it may, I am going for the 40gal replacement. Anyone have experience or knowledge on this? TIA

Choosing the replacement tank vs aux tank is a personal choice. But if one wanted the aux tank but didn't buy because of the supplied pump is a bit absurd. Mine, albeit not the same as what is supplied today is original 18 years old. You can buy a replacement pump for $25-50 and replace it in less than 15 minutes. It's not installed inside the tank.

As for skid plates, some companies can also double up the bottom layer on the tank.

On my 100 have the 40 gal LRA tank installed with the front skid plate made by ASFIR and not the entire skid plate set. Was totally worth the upgrade to not have to stop as often to fuel up. Know this doesn't answer the question.
