We made it back today about noon. Ok so Dwight and I missed the drivers meeting. Woops! I will let him describe his devastation but I HEARD THE TRAIN!!!!!! I looked out the front of the tent only to see my easyup among other things go flying by. I reached out and grabed it with one arm. Like I was going to hold it in place, after getting smacked with other flying debri and my arm getting wiggle off I decided to let go. Now for some reason one stake was still in the ground and one string still attached so it just sat there and flew around in circles for a while beeting the tent and anything in a 20' radius. I yelled to Mary Marshall to get everything important together and that we were heading to the truck. She asked what do you mean my important? I said anything you do not want blown away!! It is not a good thing to be getting rained on while still in the tent! We grabbed what we thought was all our clothes and the sleeping bags and ran to the truck to wait out the storm. We watched the people still in tents across from us running around reinstalling stakes, tieing off to vehicle and NOT HAVING A LOT OF FUN. At some point I fell asleep and woke up at dawn. What a mess. My tent stayed secure to the trailer using the metal clips I use but the easyup is trashed. I forgot my pillows so along with my cell phone they laid in a puddle inside my tent. Did I mentioned it rained in my tent? The rain fly had blown off and everthing got wet.
We made our way over to the conncesion stand, got some hot chocolate, fresh made to order breakfast buritos and then started to clean up. Picking up cold wet suff when it is 35 deg outside sucks! We cleaned up, aired up the tires in the 4runner and headed into town, found a Inn that had a couple of rooms, gave a great Katemcy rate and then looked around the main street square to see what Mason TX had to offer. We grabbed a kick ass lunch at the local cafe and headed back to see what remained of camp. To our surprise Butch informed us that the band, You know the guys we went there to see, would be playing in town later that night. What a great save!!! We loaded up the trucks, went back to town showered and took a nap, got up and went to the "social club". This place looks like an old siloh metal building. WTF. We pull up around back, see this great outdoor patio and say Oh this may be ok. About that time we see John D. Hale and one of the other band members go to their van, pull out a rope and go running after this loose goat we had seen. Now mind you we had all been drinking back and the hotel and had to finish out travelers, so we just sat in the truck and watched. So they go off runnig across the parking lot, lasso this goat and bring it back dragging it by the horns. At this point I knew the night was going to be good!
We went into this place, passing by the outdoor smoker where they cook, all the meat. I was done, I knew I had to get a steak for dinner. I started out the dinner with a Corona and a shot of tequila to chase the Jack I had earlier. We ate, drank, talked to old friends, met some new ones, listened to great music and partied till the kicked us out!!!
We left early sunday to make the drive home. Now I will say the band Friday night rocked as well. They had to leave afterwards, they were opening up for Chris Night the following night.

Tim I did talk with Joh D and they are making an east coast tour this summer. We will need to go watch them play a little closer to home!

Guys you missed another good trip out west, and yes we drove through snow again on the way home!!

Wow - quite I story. Can't wait for the t-shirt, "I survived Lone Star Cruiser Round-up 2010."

Hey, since you'all are the adventurous sort how about a little wheeling in Afghanistan? Lots of rock obstacles and the IED's keep the lines fresh. They got goats too but I think they do more to them then just rope 'em. Whatever floats your mullah...

Welcome back - glad you returned safe and soggy, er, sound.
