Hi all,

Could I get some advice about your experience with loctite 518 and or FIPG cure time in cooler temperatures?

Alternatively, could I get someone smarter than me to translate what the MSDS sheet means? http://www.dekkervacuum.com/pdfs/uploads/Loctite518ProductDataSheet_6_27_2007_10_02_34_AM.pdf

Does anyone have similar info for FIPG?

I live in the Northeast and need to do an install that requires loctite 518 sealant (or FIPG). It is below freezing, and I have a heated garage (overhead 75K btu heater), but it is uninsulated so I can heat it up to say 50degrees, but keeping it there is very difficult to do. It is plenty warm enough to spend timein doing an install, but I am fairly certain that I can't easily keep it up to temperature for a full day.

For the loctite, the MSDS mentions Activator 7471™ and 7649™. Have you used these? What was the result? Would this help accelerate cure time in cooler temps?

The install isn't something I need immediately, so if I should put it off because of curing problems, until it warms up I can live with it. I'd rather have a good install than a quick install.

Thanks,
Charlie

What parts are you sealing? Can you point a heat lamp bulb at the parts until they are cured?

TRD supercharger. Great idea - I knew you guys would have some ideas for me. This place rocks!

You could also try one of those $50 radiant heaters from WallyWorld, point it at the engine from below for a few hours before the job to get some heat into the metal and then maybe also use the heat lamp(s) from above??

If your garage is unfinished, a quick run to the hardware store for some wall insulation could go a long way. :)

Not a bad idea - not sure my wife will go for it though. Honey, I need to finish the garage insulation as step one of the install... Good idea though - it does need it.

Thanks,
Charlie
